LIPI Kembangkan Baterai Lithium Keramik untuk Mobil Listrik

- Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (LIPI) mengembangkan baterai lithium berbahan keramik padat yang lebih tahan panas untuk digunakan pada kendaraan masa depan berbahan bakar listrik fuel cell.

"Baru LIPI yang sudah berhasil mengembangkan baterai lithium dari komposit material gelas keramik di dunia ini, seperti dari pecahan kaca. Dengan demikian sistem fuel cell tidak lagi memerlukan sistem pendingin," kata Peneliti Material dan Komposit Pusat Penelitian Fisika LIPI, Dr Bambang Prihandoko di Jakarta, Senin (1/6).

Dunia mobil hibrida sampai saat ini, lanjut Bambang, masih menggunakan baterai lithium dari polimer padat yang kekurangannya tidak tahan panas, sementara baterai lithium dari keramik mampu menahan panas sampai 200 derajat Celcius sehingga tidak diperlukan sistem pendingin.

Sel baterai lithium dari keramik dengan 3,3 Volt dan 200 mili Ampere itu nantinya akan diserikan dan diparalelkan sehingga kemampuannya meningkat untuk mengganti listrik fuel cell selama dua jam bagi kecepatan kendaraan 100 km per jam.

Baterai yang dikembangkan pihaknya itu, jelasnya, sudah dalam bentuk prototipe dan sudah dipatenkan sehingga sudah bisa diproduksi secara massal.
Ia mengakui, baterai lithium masih belum diujicobakan pada kendaraan listrik fuel cell buatan LIPI (Marlip) yang masih menggunakan aki konvensional (lead acid).

"Berat baterai lithium hanya seperlima berat aki. Tahun depan akan kita ganti aki di Marlip dengan baterai lithium ini sehingga Marlip menjadi jauh lebih ringan," katanya. Tanpa baterai lithium, urainya, kendaraan listrik dengan sistem fuel cell tidak bekerja sebagaimana mestinya di mana kecepatan konstan, tidak bisa bergerak lebih cepat.

Mobil hibrida yang dilengkapi sistem fuel cell ramah lingkungan, sejak dua dekade belakangan mulai banyak diperkenalkan. Hampir seluruh produsen kendaraan bermotor juga meluncurkan jenis mobil hibrida yang selain menggunakan sumber energi premium, juga menggunakan energi listrik. Saat ini para produsen mobil hibrid sedang berlomba-lomba menciptakan baterai yang aman, bertenaga, tahan lama, ringan, dan cepat diisi ulang sambil memaksimalkan kemampuan baterai lithium-ionnya.

Prinsip kerja sistem fuel cell yakni menggunakan proses elektrokimia di mana hidrogen dan oksigen digunakan sebagai bahan bakar. Komponen utama fuel cell terdiri dari elektrolit berupa lapisan khusus yang diletakkan di antara dua buah elektroda. Proses kimia yang disebut pertukaran ion terjadi di dalam elektrolit ini dan menghasilkan listrik serta air panas, sehingga fuel cell menghasilkan energi listrik tanpa adanya pembakaran dan tidak ada polusi.

Ramayana Ballet, Drama in Typical Javanese Dance

Ramayana Ballet is the performing arts, beautiful, amazing and difficult unrivaled. This performance is able to unite various Javanese arts such as dance, drama and music on one stage and one momentum to present the Ramayana story, a legendary epos written by Valmiki in Sanskrit.

Ramayana story that brought on this show is similar to that engraved on Prambanan temple. BOOMING BUSINESS IN 2010
CREATIVE AND GREEN ECONOMY 2010

Projection of improving Indonesian economy in 2010, compared with that of 2009, makes lots of business sectors in brighter prospect and is expected to flourish in 2010. However, apart from that, dynamic non-sector business seemingly will thrive in the coming years, e.g. creative economy and green economy.

After shocking the world with his prophecy of the world’s future in his book “Future Shock” in 1970, ten years later Alvin Toffler again became a subject of discussion in the world when he launched a book “The Third Wave” in 1980. This book essentially depicts a transition of advanced countries from industrial age society called as a second wave towards information age society as a third wave.

Toffler pointed out three types of society based on wave concept in which each wave eliminates previous culture or civilization. The first type is agricultural society that removes hunter-gatherer society. The second wave is industrial age society. The second wave started occurring in West Europe since the onset of Industrial Revolution and subsequently it spread all over the world.

A key aspect in the second wave society is the emerging of big corporations. Toffler said the second wave society lived on basis of mass production, mass distribution, mass entertainment, weapon of mass destruction. This basis is subsequently combined into standardization, centralization, and concentration and synchronization which subsequently is incorporated into an organization known as bureaucracy.

In the meantime, the post industrial age society appears in the third wave. In this type of society massive things that previously occurred much in the second wave turns into de-massive things. In the post-industrial age society goods and services are many produced on knowledge-based. Information becomes more valuable source than material one.

Based on Toffler’s society wave concept, the capital can be grouped into several wave changes. On the first wave is agriculture age, the form of main capital is land for planting. On the second wave, is industrial age, the main capital is machinery and factory. Whereas, on the third capital is information age, the main capital is information that finally change the world economy with the characteristic of thriving service industry.

Projection Based on Wave Concept
On the basis of wave concept of the change of the type of society the projection of Indonesian economy in 2010 can be more enriched. All this time the projection of economic development at home is much focused on projection of each industrial sector in this country. As reflected in Indonesia stock exchange, at least there are 9 industrial sector in Indonesia, i.e. agriculture, mining, basic industry and chemical, miscellaneous industry, consumer goods industry, property, and real estate, infrastructure, utilities & transportation, finance, and trade. The nine sectors include in 99 subsectors of industry. In the meantime, if projection of economic growth based on supply side of Bank Indonesia, then there are nine business sectors that contribute to GDP Indonesia, i.e. agriculture, mining & Quarrying, processing industry, electricity, gas and clean water, building, trade, hotel and restaurant, transportation and communication, finance, leasing & services.

If following the concept of wave change of society type, projection of development of each business sector is much closer to the industrial age society or the second wave. In fact, non-sector business and cross-sector industry also starts to develop in the dynamic of business in Indonesia. These business activities can regarded as business activities based on creative economy and based on the concern of living environmental conservation (green economy).

Creative economy in essence is creating goods and services on the basis of intellectual property relying on expertise, talent, and creativity. So far creative industry, as evidence suggests, can contribute to national economy. Apart from contributing to GDP, it also can absorb in workforce and export drive. One of economy creative now thriving is related to utilization of information technology or generally known as digital business. Besides digital business, one of creative industry that also thrives recently is business related to entertainment business.

Other than creative industry, business work on environment conservation also grows. Green economy consists of 3 main businesses. First, business on producing goods that directly can diminish carbon emission. This product constitutes a substitute for fossil fuel, which is commonly carried out. The common terminology for this is green energy. Second is activity of industry that supports green activity. Third is green industry in environment and workers.

CAPITALIZE ON THE MOMENTUM OF COPENHAGEN SUMMIT


Climate Change summit in Copenhagen, Denmark, last December, recommended to all countries in the world to diminish carbon emission. This will definitely serve as a main trigger of rapid growth of green industry.

At stock market, the sector of mining and energy, telecommunication, infrastructure, and consumer goods in 2010 will definitely continue a trend of positive growth that has occurred in the last few years. Companies in these sectors will keep on improving their performance; their shares will be in the pursuit of investors accordingly. Thus, considering the joint commitment of the world to lessen carbon emission in Copenhagen Summit of Climate Change, obviously green industry is likely to go booming.

Algore, the former Vice President of the U.S., a Nobel Laureate in 2007, as committed to diminishing climate change impact, underlined that climate change impact was overly big for human civilization. On the one hand, climate change has served as a serious threat to human being. However, on the other hand, the global commitment to diminishing climate change impact through carbon emission is believed to stimulate green industry. These two strong reasons will make the year 2010 as a new era of the booming of green industry.

Tree Business Opportunities
If grouped specifically, business activities linked to green environment can be cleaved into three main businesses. First, activities in goods production can directly reduce carbon emission. This product is a substitute of fossilized fuel largely used. The right terminology for this product is green energy.
Green energy, which especially derives from plant, about three years ago, was expected to be a booming commodity. However, the weak commitment of various stakeholders in reducing climate change impact has reduced the booming of green energy.

Other than that, profit margin of green energy which derives from plant is less compatible with other businesses. Even, the land, which is used for green energy, will generate the level of return much bigger if the land is used for non-green plant-based energy. On this business reality, on rational basis, green energy develops less rapidly in the last three years.

Outside this, the majority of green energy business, which still bases on plants, is of small micro entrepreneurs; therefore there is no much fabulous innovation which can be used for further development of the potential of green energy. In addition to that, because they are small-micro entrepreneurs, the pattern of yield is seen in short term. Under such business prospect, it does not show a bigger level of return.

However, it took place several years ago, when there was no global commitment yet that bound the countries in the world to reduce carbon emission. Currently, when global commitment has been made, green industry, not just feasible, but also is something that must run. Therefore, the 2010 becomes an important momentum for the booming of green energy.

Alike green energy business as a core business, other two green economies are supporting as follows (i) industry which supports green activity, and (ii) industry which is green to environment and so are its workers . Most of these two businesses at level of transnational have been implemented in the last few years. However, such positioning is barely as a supplement to its main business.
As an example of the first business, hybrid car made by Toyota Corporation is barely small part of Toyota business activity. Consequently, contribution of this business line to Toyota’s total revenue is still low. However, the post global carbon emission agreement it is firmed that Toyota Corp, business strategy will change that it will produce more green cars.

As a supporting business, in short term these two businesses have not yet contributed to big growth. However, in the medium-long run, the two businesses gradually begin to contribute major revenue. Considering objectively these points, for investors who want to earn the level of profit fairly bigger, a real investment in green economy can serve as an appropriate decision in 2010.

{wihans.web.id} – Jakarta, Stroke adalah penyakit yang menakutkan karena dapat menyebabkan kecacatan dan penderitaan baik bagi diri sendiri maupun keluarga, dalam jangka waktu yang lama bahkan seumur hidup. Sayangnya banyak gejela stroke yang sering diremehkan.

Sebaiknya kenali gejala stoke sejak dini, agar tidak terserang stroke total. Stroke menjadi penyakit penyebab kecacatan nomor 1 dan penyebab kematian nomor 3 di dunia.

Banyak definisi yang diberikan orang awam untuk penyakit stroke. Kelumpuhan sebelah, koma, kejang atau bicara pelo. Tapi definisi stroke menurut Badan Kesehatan Dunia (WHO) adalah terjadinya defisit neurologis mendadak (bukan perlahan), yang menetap lebih dari 24 jam dan disebabkan oleh faktor pembuluh darah atau sirkulasi, yaitu adanya penyumbatan atau pendarahan pada pembuluh darah.

“Defisit neurologis adalah gejala awal pada pasien stroke yang biasanya sering diabaikan. Defisit neurologis akan diketahui oleh pasien sendiri atau keluarga pasien, maka sebaiknya disadari sedini mungkin,” kata dr Ashwin M. dr Ashwin menjelaskan, biasanya pasien atau keluarga pasien akan mengabaikan gejala-gejala awal ini, sehingga ketika mereka sudah menyadarinya dan membawa ke rumah sakit, stroke yang diderita sudah cukup parah dan menyebabkan stroke total yang susah untuk disembuhkan.

Menurut dr Ashwin, gejala defisit neurologis yang sering diabaikan meliputi:

Perubahan dan penurunan kesadaran

Ada tingkatan dalam kesadaran yaitu:

1. Compos mentis, yaitu ketika seseorang masih tersadar penuh
2. Apatis, yaitu kurangnya respons terhadap keadaan sekeliling, biasanya ditandai dengan tidak adanya kontak mata atau mata terlihat menerewang dan tidak fokus
3. Somnolen, yaitu keadaan dimana seseorang sangat mudah mengantuk dan tidur terus-menerus, tetapi masih mudah untuk dibangunkan
4. Sopor, yaitu kondisi tidak sadar atau tidur berkepanjangan, tetapi masih memberikan reaksi terhadap rangsangan (rasa sakit).
5. Koma, yaitu kondisi tidak sadar dan tidak ada reaksi terhadap rangsangan apapun.

Gangguan fungsi luhur

Gejala-gejala ini paling sering diabaikan oleh pasien atau keluarga pasien, karena dianggap hanya gangguan biasa yang bisa sembuh dengan sendirinya.

Cirinya:

1. Gangguan bahasa (afasia), yaitu kondisi dimana seseorang tiba-tiba tidak mengerti bahasa yang biasa digunakannya sehari-hari.
2. Gangguan mengenal tata ruang (gangguan visuospatial), yaitu kondisi dimana seseorang menganggap semua benda berada pada bidang datar, sehingga ia merasa cukup hanya dengan menjangkau dengan tangan tanpa beranjak, walaupun benda tersebut berada 5 m di depannya.
3. Gangguan berhitung (akalkulia), yaitu jika seseorang tiba-tiba kehilangan kemampuan berhitung dengan soal mudah sekalipun.
4. Gangguan menulis (agrafia), yaitu jika seseorang tiba-tiba tidak bisa menulis namun masih bisa membaca.
5. Gangguan membaca (alexia), yaitu jika seseorang tiba-tiba tidak bisa membaca namun bisa menulis.
6. Gangguan mengenal nama orang atau barang (anomia), bahkan dengan orang atau barang yang sering ditemuinya
7. Gangguan memori (amnesia)

Gangguan sensorik

1. Hemihipestesia (baal atau kurangnya sensitifitas pada 1 sisi)
2. Hemiparestesia (kesemutan 1 sisi)
3. Kesemutan sekitar mulut
4. Gangguan pengecapan atau lidah
5. Nyeri pada satu sisi tubuh

Kejang

1. Kejang fokal, yaitu kejang pada salah satu bagian tubuh (kanan atau kiri saja)
2. Kejang umum, yaitu kejang pada seluruh tubuh
3. kejang absans, yaitu kejang disertai waktu jeda dan kemudian kejang lagi secara berulang-ulang

Gangguan lapang pandang penglihatan

1. Buta mendadak 1 mata atau 2 mata
2. Gelap 1 sisi lapang pandang atau terdapat spot hitam di sekitar pandangan

Gangguan motorik

1. Hemiparesis (lemah sebelah badan, tangan kaki kanan atau kiri saja)
2. Quadriparesis (lemah keempat anggota badan, tangan kaki kanan dan kiri)
3. Paraparesis (lemah kedua kaki)
4. Gangguan gerak otot wajah, biasanya ditandai dengan bentuk bibir yang tiba-tiba miring
5. Gangguan gerak bola mata (oftalmoplegia)
6. Gangguan menelan (disfagia)

Nah, sebaiknya Anda mengetahui gejala-gejala diatas dengan baik, sehingga bila Anda atau keluarga Anda mengalami gejal-gejala diatas dapat segera ditangani dengan baik sebelum terlambat. Gejala stroke yang terlambat untuk didiagnosa akan menyebabkan terjadinya stroke total yang mungkin tidak bisa disembuhkan.

INDONESIAN SCIENTISTS INVENTED NANO-CANCER THERAPY

Airlanga University’s research team develops nano-technology cancer therapy. Its outcome is more effective, also much cheaper twentieth time as much than foreign medicine.
It is not futile that Andi Hamim Zaidan and his ten other colleagues spent 2 years on research at Airlangga University’s Photon Laboratory, Surabaya. Their research comes out with good results. They succeed in producing prototype of gold nano-particle in 20 and 30 nanometer. Particle in super mini can penetrate into human body, then find and destroy cancer cells.
For selecting cancer cell, said Zaidin Gold Nano-Particle is equipped with smart censor made of antigen polyetilenglycol (PEG). After locking location of cancer cell, the body gets rayed with Photo Thermal Therapy (PTT). Process of electromagnetic wave radiation (commonly using infra red rays) changes light into heat that can terminate cancer cells.
“At this moment, GNP prototype is not equipped with a smart censor as it must undergo characterization in its optic and thermal nature first,” said Dean, Faculty of Science and Technology of Airlangga University, Surabaya.
At the stage of characterization, his side has to cooperate with Physic Optic Laboratory of Airlangga University, as Electron Microscope is required (SEM and TEMP type). This equipment is overly rare in Indonesia.
After the stage of characterization, the research enters experiment therapy in vitro, by cultivating cancer cells out of host. Then, GNP is tested on animal before testing it on human body. At in-vitro and in vivo stage, Zaidan will cooperate with his colleagues in Medical Faculty of Airlangga University.
If it is used as cancer therapy, Zaidan added, the gold particle is better round or in bar. The maximum size is 50 nanometer, so it can freely penetrate into cells. The target of their research is synthesizing GNP with small diameter, i.e. 15 nanometer.
The research of GNP as an instrument of cancer therapy is not the first thing to do. Scores of countries has conducted this since several years ago. However, according Zaidan, his research is different from the side of development of theory and method of synthesis. At the stage of theory, they develop PTT model using GNP and complete carbon nano tube (CNB), starting from simulation of photon to dosimetri therapy.
Dosimetri GNP means the determination of way of ray exposure, duration, power, electromagnetic radiation wave length. Model of PTT is related to photodynamic therapy (PDT). The difference is that PTT does not require oxygen for integration with cell or target network.
PTT can use light with less-energetic wave length so not overly dangerous for cell and other network. “There is no yet a complete theory for this, not to mention on the use of CNT,” said he.
The new other thing from Zaidan’s research team is not synthesizing of GNP with chemical reaction as commonly used in foreign researches. The reason is that the frozen material for synthesis using chemical reaction is overly expensive and must be imported. He exemplifies he finds a material which cost at Rp 3 million a gram.
Therefore, Zaidan’s team searched for local material as a means of synthesis. The new synthesis model is easier and cheaper, without diminishing the level of accuracy and it minimizes side effect.
In comparison, if using imported material, GNP production requires US$ 250 up to US$ 500 per millimeter. If using local material, its production cost is merely at Rp 25,000 per millimeter or 20th time as much cheaper. “So, my prediction, if our research is already accomplished and can be applied, the cost remains at Rp 50,000 , he said. Apart from developing GNP as a means of cancer therapy, Zaidan’s team is also developing CNT as an agent of selective cancer therapy and diagnosis. For diagnosis they try to make contrast agent for Magnetic Resonance Imaging and biomarker.
Now the research of CNT has just accomplished at the stage of theory and model. While one step behind GNP is experiment, it has entered the stage of experiment.

RISKA CREATION

Rizka Mirzalina succeeds in positioning her eco-fashion shoes in domestic and foreign market. Linda Chandra and Marc Jacobs become her inspiration. Index carbon of her production stands at 0.4 tons up to 1 tons.

Beginning from the drawing books given to her, Riska as a child likes drawing. At secondary school in 1999, Riska was just for fun designing cell phone and sport shoes in which there is halogen. In 2004, she remembered, Siemens issued a cell phone, the model of which was similar to her previous design.

One of the merits of Riska business is her platform: green business. Green is translated by Riska into not just from recycled material aspect but also into the entire process. “For instance, in every activity I count its trace of carbon every 6 months. My latest carbon index stands at 0.4 tons up to 1 tons.” This is a part of the realization of mission of go green business,” said Riska.

Riska began concerned about environment when she was inspired by her host father, Bryan, in a exchange student program. She was taught to be more concerned not only about environment, but also social and manpower. With a recycled material I can save production cost up to 30%, which then is allocated for manpower. This does happen if they make braded shoes,” she said.

According to Rizka there are two designers that inspire her. They are March Jacobs, Creative Director for Louis Vuitton, fashion house, whose design is much liked by many young generations. The other is Linda Chandra. Linda’s shoes are overly cute in design. Her level is high,” said Riska.

For overseas promotion she was helped when she participated in shoes promotion in Leverkusen, Germany, in November last year. At that time, Bayer chose her as one of four projects in Indonesia in Bayer Young Environmental Envoy 2009. “We learn about environment program and sustainable company,” she said.

In Leverkusen she displayed her green innovation products. The media coverage from Turk, Finland, and Columbia was overly helpful, so shoes order from overseas flew in, such as the Philippines, America, Peru, Switzerland, and Norway.

In next July, Riska will attend World Bank program in Sweden. She is elected as a final of environment competition which will discuss environment issue. Afterwards, she wants to submit her business proposal for final lecture assignment.

From here, she intended to apply for loan for opening a workshop. She wants to known as a shoe designer. Like Channel, not only as a product design, but also as a designer, i.e. Coco Channel,” said Riska.
